About this site
The Lee family genealogy was started at the beginning of 2005 after a false start some ten years previously. It is uses an open source program called phpGedView to present a gedcom file as web pages using the php scripting program and optionally, a mysql database. It is an excellent way of sharing and updating information, ensuring that information is held centrally for collaboration. Although other users have to be online to use it, the actual gedcom file can be imported into a variety of genealogy software.
I have adopted what I hope will be a simple methodology in the citation of sources, such as census data, as it is possible to all too easily end up with citations all over the place. Taking the case of a census source, each census is regarded as a source. All family members will have there presence on the census recorded as "census fact". If an image exists for the census, then that will be recorded as a multimedia item against the source. Similarly, there are lots of scanned images of birth and marriage certificates. These are treated as sources and any births, deaths and marriages will have that source attached to their entries. Finally, any records found in the International Genealogical Index produced by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints have not been lifted and then cited as coming from the original source but have remained as an IGI source. Only actual source documents which have been seen will be cited as such.
